The setting is present-day, but the emphasis doesn't have to be on matching up with up-to-the-minute current events. I suppose it's fine to make the occasional reference to the wider world, but I'd like to try and leave major news items out of things, in case they should feel dated. Also, we're almost certainly not going to be able to play things in Real Time, so unless it's a generalised reference to an on-going state (i.e. talking about the Queen is fine, talking about her visit to Rome as of early April 2014 is putting too fine a point on it.) Also, while I'm not averse to drama, Penchurch may be ever-so-slightly AU in that it can tend to be a more idealised version of Britain. Like, I know a lot of southern England got flooded and blown every which way this past winter, and farms across the nation are failing, but for the sake of happier pretendy-fun-times in general, this blessed plot of Penchurch and everything around it for miles was spared. If you'd like to factor in a natural/economic disaster of some sort for your plots, bring it to me and we'll see what we can work out.
Season-wise, we're beginning in January--the Christmas season is over, and it's back to business as usual and a looking-forward to the new year...and the scheduled start of production at Penchurch Abbey for the new Napoleonic period drama, Bournewood.
I won't be setting out specific dates or times for people to play--if people want to keep a handle on their own character's timeline progression, you will need to keep track of which threads were played when, and decide where in your character's progression the thread has occurred. If players wish, I can make a separate subforum where you can keep master-lists with links to threads to track storyplay progress and keep a chronological archive of events. I hope this will be easy enough to manage, for now, and that it'll allow more fluidity and ease with people's writing.
