Character Name: Reverend Lucy Parr, often referred to as 'Vic'

History
Lucy grew up in the city of Exeter with her parents, one sister and three dogs. Her father was a banker, while her mother was a lawyer, and so she grew up in affluent surroundings with almost everything that she could wish for. She spent many hours on the beach, walking with the dogs and her family and talking, and these are still some very happy memories that she retains. Lucy went to the Maynard School,in Exeter, but made few friends, despite being an amiable and open person, due to her strange sense of humour, which many thought weird.
Throughout the early years of her teens, she spent holidays with her grandparents in a Cornish fishing village, but she could sadly no longer do so after the death of both her grandfather and grandmother in a plane accident over the Atlantic. This tragedy was a huge event in Lucy's life, and it was the memory of how her grandparents' parish vicar helped her through it that made her decide to become a vicar herself, much to the disappointment of her parents, who were not especially religious and had expected her to become a lawyer like her mother. Lucy was determined, however, and finished her training at the top of her year, before throwing herself eagerly into her new job and looking for a quiet seaside parish, much like the one where her grandparents lived, since the cobbled streets and friendly atmosphere of that environment provided her with some of her happiest memories.
She worked in a small town on the Scottish borders for a while, but was finally given the chance to move to Penchurch, which was just the sort of place that she wanted to work in, with a small, tight knit, rural community, far away from the hustle and bustle of the cities. On arriving, Lucy was delighted with the warm welcome she received from the vast majority of the Penchurch residents, but realised within a very short space of time that she would never truly be regarded as 'one of them' as she had been in the Cornish village, though that was mainly due to the fact that her grandparents were residents there. Lucy wasn't worried by this, since the villagers were all friendly enough towards her, and she understood that she was an unknown quantity in a previously unchanging equation, so to speak.
Once settled in to the village, and at home in the church and the Vicarage, she immediately began working for the good of her parishioners, delivering her church services with imagination, dedication and flair, conveying her total belief while making it plain to the villagers that they could come to her for help at any time, day or night, and be sure of receiving it. This, she hoped, conveyed her absolute dedication to her role as an ordained member of the Church, and she expected to establish closer relations with residents of the village over time. Lucy has now been working in the village for seven years, and believes that she knows most of the village residents fairly well.
Appearance
Lucy has white-blonde hair which she usually wears up in a bun at the back of her head. Her eyes are emerald green, and her skin has become brown during her time in the village due to the continual exposure to brisk sea breezes, sun and salt spray. She is fairly slim due to a miracle of genetics, and while she is quite short, she still manages to maintain an air of authority. When not working, she tends to wear long skirts and patterned blouses with various scarves and shawls, as well as a long coat between about October and April.
Personality
Lucy is an amiable and friendly person with a general air of trustworthiness that leads many to confide in her. This is, of course, a huge asset in her line of work. She can be inclined towards sarcasm and sharpness, but she tries to tone this down, though not always successfully. Another of Lucy's vices is a little vanity, which means that she is often late because of having been delayed by looking in the mirror. She can also sometimes be a little snobbish, though this is very rare and something that she tries to avoid. However, she does genuinely want to help people, and will never turn away someone in need (although if she's woken before 6am, she's likely to be a little snappish). Lucy does have a weakness for the opposite sex, and when she was a teenager in Exeter, she had a reputation for changing her boyfriends as often as she changed her socks (or so the saying went). Since coming to Penchurch, however, she has found rather to her dismay that the supply of 'available' men is somewhat limited. This means that she no longer has the opportunity to keep moving between partners, and especially since her looks now are not at all what they were when she was sixteen, and the fact that she is a vicar also tends to discourage people.
Lucy likes to meet new people, and makes a point of visiting any newcomers to the village. She is a friendly person in general, and follows the traditional vicar's pastime of making social calls on parishioners, which has sadly fallen from wider use.
Happily, Lucy has a great deal of tolerance, except for when under great strain. This means that she will get on well with all kinds of people, from many different backgrounds, jobs and cultures. The one thing that she can't tolerate is cold callers, since she believes that if she wants to buy something, she'll go and buy it, and doesn't need a man on her doorstep telling her to do it. Many door to door salesmen in Exeter used to dive behind bushes at the sight of her.
Lucy has a dark sense of humour that many find off putting. This manifests itself as jokes made about topics which many might think of as insensitive, and as sarcasm, which is such a mainstay of her conversation that it is difficult for many to tell whether or not she is being sarcastic. She is witty in general conversation, but usually serious when dealing with people’s problems, although she is a light-hearted person by inclination and by nature.
Lucy is predisposed to like children and animals, although there are exceptions to every rule. In the main, she is kind to everyone, especially the vulnerable, but if anyone crosses her, they’ll live to regret it. She can be cruel when pushed, and anyone who hurts someone else will find that she is unrelenting until they make some form of amends. She is a good friend to have in a tight corner.
