Character Name: Isabella "Bee" Hazard Rosdew
Age: 26
History
The Rosdew family has been living in Penchurch for about as long as anybody can remember. Parish documents have them on record living in the house called Roscarrock as far back as the records go, and while early ancestors were variously landowners, naval officers, and possibly smugglers, the last several generations have operated Penchurch's primary remaining fishing operation. Bee is the eldest child of Ned Rosdew and his wife Susan, named for his mother (Isabella) and his boat (Hazard). Friends and neighbors might remember Bee's birth as somewhat remarkable, as she was born en caul--or, as any reasonable Penny would call it, a mermaid birth.
Despite a birth that heralded a great destiny, Bee's childhood was largely ordinary, peppered with the expected markers and events, time outside of school filled with a gaggle of friends and no more than the usual rough-housing and mischief of youth. Blessed with an affectionate and stable family life, she swam competitively and performed in school theatrical productions throughout her secondary years, where her performance and aptitude were otherwise middling to fair. Ned had always wanted his son Lindsay to follow him into the family business, and with no particular occupational talents, she was encouraged to forge her own path. She chose to try her hand at what all pretty girls are eventually told they should do: acting.
An experience on an early student film project indicated that she in fact liked (and had more talent for) making movies better than appearing in them, and she switched degrees soon after. She was offered work in Los Angeles upon graduating, and has spent the last few years in the US. Through hard work, a natural facility for networking, and sheer good luck, she has worked with some of film’s biggest names, and impressed them to boot. In the personal arena, she had a boyfriend for part of university, and a girlfriend for a while in LA, but is for the most part committed to her work for the time being.
Bee has been with the Bournewood project since the very beginning, having worked with the director previously. In fact, it was Bee who brought the production to Penchurch, having suggested it as a shooting location. Always happy to represent her hometown, she is delighted to be able to work close to home as the first assistant director, and to reconnect with people she hasn’t much seen since going away to university and moving to California.
The local girl gone good has come home, and it seems she brought some of that success with her--along with a whole lot of lights, cameras, and coffee.
Appearance
Bee is an undoubtedly attractive woman. While in childhood her hair was more rat's nest than crowning glory, time has taught her to manage her cloud of natural blonde curls, and her eyes are a pretty sea green to match. Taller than average, she stands at 5 feet, 10 inches (and a half, if she's feeling exact), with an athletic build and a frankly impressive rack. She doesn't dress formally unless specifically directed, generally preferring practical and comfortable clothes in desaturated colors, convenient for working or socializing.
Personality
Bee Rosdew looks like a Fragonard and hits like a freight train.
Constantly in motion, Bee has always been a big, lively presence, full of creative energy and easy good humor. Her temper comes quickly, but her laughter quicker, and while aware of the opinions of others, she doesn’t like to get caught up paying them too much mind. She is the sort of person who has always seemed to know exactly who she is, and her confidence stems from that.
Genuinely kind-hearted and sweet-natured, Bee could make conversation with a brick wall if she had to, and despite 4 years in Hollywood, she persists in seeing the best in people. That’s not to say she’s naive--she is much more astute than she appears, and has a keen social awareness necessary in a career so focused on networking. Sometimes she might come off a little too enthusiastic, and her tongue can get her into trouble, but she almost never acts maliciously. She has a warm and generous spirit, and cares deeply for those closest to her--who have frequently described her as a human hurricane, which is not inaccurate. Those who work with her generally have only good things to say, though she is easily distracted and frequently late.
More than a large-scale TV production and a taste for fancy coffee, Bee brought something else home from California: a diagnosis. Bee now credits her overwhelmingly energetic nature, short attention span, and underperformance in school despite ability to ADHD. She takes medication to keep herself focused in her organizationally-oriented position in production, but she remains quick-thinking and quick-speaking. She is effective when motivated and likes to be competent in all she does--more than good at her job, she truly enjoys making movies and telling stories.
She is also a talented musician, but pursues this only as a hobby. She could pick up just about any instrument and have it making music soon thereafter, but focuses on acoustic guitar, and took piano lessons as a child. She loves the ocean and picked up surfing while in California, but prefers the untamed cliffs of home to the sandy Pacific beaches in LA. Her spelling is atrocious, and she has a tendency to forget people's names upon meeting them.
Bee may be extremely proud of her hometown, but she also sort of dropped off the map as soon as she moved. Plane tickets are expensive, to be fair, but Bee was not great at keeping in contact in general, being genuinely distracted and a bit flaky. When excited she has a tendency to talk over people, and may not notice she interrupted. Furthermore, that unshakeable confidence and so-far success in her career also mean she has some difficulty believing herself to be wrong. Any short-sightedness stems from the fact that so far, she's had it pretty good--a largely comfortable upbringing, good looks, and success. Talent can make people proud, and Bee is certainly talented. It is all, however, with the best of intentions.
That said, the next person to tell her she should be in front of the camera instead of behind it gets socked in the face.
