Character Name: Rawdon Benedick Bertrand Montgomery IV
Age: 30
History:
Better known as Monty to family, friends and fans, Rawdon Montgomery has grown up exceptionally privileged. His father is an actor with three Academy Awards to his name, his mother is a famous London socialite, his elder sister owns a London football club and his younger brother is well on his way to becoming a tech billionaire. Staying out of the limelight was never really going to be an option for him.
Educated at Eton, though deciding against going down the Oxbridge route, Monty trained at RADA, determined to try to make his way in the business without relying on his family name. Whether or not he was successful in this is up for debate - there is no doubt that he is an incredibly talented actor, but he certainly received a large number of offers from agents and directors before he even began rehearsing for his final year showcase. The gossip columns and twitters are quick to cry nepotism at any opportunity but Monty is just as quick to reply with a photo of the BAFTA Rising Star award he won 2010, for his performance as Locke Lamora in the film adaptation of the first of the Gentlemen Bastard books.
Monty originally read for the part of the Duke of Conyngham in Bournewood but feels no bitterness whatsoever at losing out on the role, whatever BlindGossip might have to say about it. This is perhaps in part due to the fact that the part went to one of his closest friends, Jeannot d'Aubin, who he met on the set of an ITV production a few years back. Knowing that Jeannot would be involved, Monty was quick to accept the role of the duke's valet Newing, though he claims that this had little impact on his decision. (His family and friends think otherwise.)
Normally living it up in Primrose Hill, with at least two friends staying over at any one time, Monty will be renting a room in a local B&B from Mr. and Mrs. Haverleigh. He debated renting a house to himself but Monty both thrives on having company and despises cooking. It's a win-win situation all round.
Appearance:
Monty is quite tall, standing at around 5’11”, though friends have been known to argue that the last few inches are gained by the volume of his hair, which is a light red colour and it curls when left to grow long. His face, defined by an artistically roguish beard, is a smiling and approachable one. His clothes tend towards the expensive, often the sort of expensive that comes of trying to buy clothes that look worn or distressed.
(FC: Rupert Young)
Personality:
Monty is handsome, clever, eligible, and well aware of all of the above. Flirtation is second nature to him, as is his unfaltering confidence and a tendency to Instagram what he is doing at any given moment to just over one million people.
He's your typical man about town, usually found barhopping and roaming the streets of North London with a pack of equally attractive and well-to-do friends, including a few members of royalty. His personal life has always been subject to scrutiny: openly bisexual and constantly connected to various attractive and well-bred men and women, he is a regular fixture in the Daily Mail Sidebar of Shame, and this is not for nothing. Monty exudes a certain type of charisma, one that draws people in to him and leaves them feeling as if they were his greatest friend. He befriends people quickly, and has a tendency to drop them just as fast when they fail to hold his attention. Essentially, he is an expert manipulator of people. He would never truly find it in himself to care enough to do it maliciously - not only would he see it rather a waste of his time, he hasn’t a deliberately cruel bone in his body.
He is arrogant, certainly, but almost never in regards to his commercial success. He is never one to look down his nose at a colleague's work history, or turn his back on someone who helped him to get to where he is today. Whilst he might not necessarily seem it in his personal life, Monty is an extremely hard worker who takes his job seriously. You won't find him hungover on set (though days off are fair game), or sleeping his way through the production assistants. He is a conscientious member of the team who is determined to see the show succeed.
